Creating Virtual Fisio

Virtual Fisio is a project created by three entrepreneurs from the health care sector seeking an ambitious purpose: improving the recovery of patients with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

They found out that there were too few exercises to treat TMJ disorders. Patients experienced pain and boredom during the theraphy. As a result of this, some patients became reluctant to follow the treatment to cure their TMJ disorder.

In order to revert this situation, Virtual Fisio came up with a VR-based solution. The video game called FitJaw enables patients to perform their rehab exercises free of pain and full of fun, since patients immerse themselves in a digital jungle environment where they need to eat virtual targets for bonus points.

The team

This VR-based project has come true thanks to the dedication and commitment of a physiotherapist, DO Javier Urresti; a maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Ricardo López; and a computer engineer, Alejandro González.

This team worked together to develop the VR application FitJaw, which enables patients with TMJ disorders to follow their recovery therapy with very good results.

This pioneering initiative in Seville will reshape the field of the maxillofacial physiotherapy in the 21st century.
